Buda Castle

Buda Castle is the real historic palace complex crowning Castle Hill on the western bank of the Danube, first built in the 13th century and rebuilt many times since, most recently after World War II damage. Once the seat of Hungarian kings, it now houses the Hungarian National Gallery and the Budapest History Museum. Its terraces give some of the best panoramic views over the Danube and Pest's Parliament building across the water.

Fisherman's Bastion is a real neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque viewing terrace built between 1895 and about 1902 (sources vary) on Castle Hill, with seven fairy-tale turrets said to represent the seven Magyar tribes that founded Hungary. Despite its medieval look, it's a relatively modern structure designed purely for the panoramic view it frames over the Danube, Chain Bridge, and Pest's skyline. It sits right beside Matthias Church, making the two a natural pairing for visitors.

Hungarian Parliament Building

The Hungarian Parliament Building is a real Gothic Revival landmark built between 1885 and 1902 on the Danube's eastern bank, and remains one of the largest legislative buildings in Europe. Its symmetrical facade, central dome, and riverside setting make it one of the most photographed buildings in Central Europe, especially when lit up at night.
