About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, a real day trip to genuine Vienna, with a real included lunch. This is a private tour for your group only. Real stops include the Ringstrasse, Parliament, State Opera, and Hofburg Palace in genuine Vienna, Austria, with a real included lunch.

Vienna's grand Ringstrasse boulevard exists because Emperor Franz Joseph decided, in 1857, that the city's medieval fortress walls had to come down — "Es ist mein Wille," his decree read, "it is my will." The walls fell in 1861, and the ring of monumental buildings that replaced them, including the Vienna State Opera, became the backbone of the imperial capital you'll be walking through. The Opera itself opened in 1869 with Mozart's Don Giovanni, was heavily damaged by Allied bombing in 1945, and reopened a decade later with a performance of Beethoven's Fidelio — a history written into nearly every building along this route.

The Hofburg Palace anchors the Ringstrasse's western end, and it's less a single building than a palace city within the city: its oldest wing dates to the 13th century, its newest to the late 1800s, and together they cover more than 47 acres. Within those walls sit the Austrian National Library, the Imperial Treasury, and the Spanish Riding School — and, to this day, offices of the Austrian government itself, since parts of the Hofburg still serve as the seat of the country's executive branch.

Because the day is yours to shape, there's room to linger longer at whichever of these stops interests your group most, with a real sit-down lunch built into the schedule rather than a rushed stop between landmarks. As a fellow Schengen country, Austria shares an open border with Hungary, so the crossing itself is simply part of the drive — no passport checks, no border stop to plan around.
