Explore Edmonton says the route connects with the LRT at Century Park and also lists taxis and Uber.

By train and coach

Parks Canada's Jasper page says VIA Rail has regular train service to Jasper via Edmonton and Vancouver, and Explore Edmonton says Red Arrow provides transportation from many surrounding cities. Neither timetable was read for this page, so check the operators' own sites.

To Elk Island and the Rockies

Elk Island's south entrance is about 48 km from the city centre via Highway 16 East, and the airport is about an hour's drive from the park. On busy summer weekends Parks Canada points visitors to a park bus from MEC or the Royal Alberta Museum in downtown Edmonton (no schedule was read). Jasper National Park is 370 km west of Edmonton; Parks Canada says SunDog Transportation and Tours offers a daily Jasper to Edmonton connector shuttle. See the Jasper, Banff and Calgary pages for the Rockies.

Edmonton Transit (ETS)

An adult (19 to 64) fare with an Arc card or a debit or credit card is CAD 3 for 90 minutes, capped at CAD 10.50 a day; an Arc ticket or cash is CAD 3.75 (City of Edmonton, checked 26 October 2026). Short answers, checked against official sources on 26 October 2026.

Tell us your date, group size and what you want to see. The Voyzo team replies by email with the tour that fits and the price for your group.

How do I get from Edmonton International Airport to downtown Edmonton?

ETS Route 747 runs between the airport and Century Park Transit Centre seven days a week, taking about 24 minutes, from 4:10 AM to 12:30 AM. The fare is CAD 6 per one-way trip (ETS, rates as of 1 February 2026, listed on 26 October 2026), and Explore Edmonton says the route connects with the LRT at Century Park. Explore Edmonton also lists taxis and Uber. For a group that needs its own vehicle, see Edmonton group transport.

What is the best time to visit Edmonton?

Summer is the warmest period: Environment and Climate Change Canada's 1991-2020 normals for the Edmonton airport station give mean daily highs of 20.7 °C in June, 23.0 °C in July and 22.4 °C in August. The Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival runs 12 to 22 August 2027, and the Edmonton Folk Music Festival takes place each August.

How cold does Edmonton get in winter?

The 1991-2020 normals at the Edmonton airport station give a January mean daily high of −6.5 °C and a mean daily low of −18.1 °C, with 126.7 cm of snow a year. The lowest temperature in that period was −46.1 °C, on 13 December 2009. Pack a warm coat, hat, mitts and boots; the indoor stops are the museum, the conservatory and West Edmonton Mall.

What are the main things to do in Edmonton, and how many days do you need?

Voyzo has guides to the Royal Alberta Museum, the Muttart Conservatory, Fort Edmonton Park, West Edmonton Mall and Elk Island National Park. One day covers a downtown or river valley walk plus one major stop; a second day suits Elk Island, about 48 km east of the city centre. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays except holiday Mondays.

Is Fort Edmonton Park open in winter?

Only in part. From 26 September 2026 to 25 April 2027 the park opens just its Indigenous Peoples Experience, on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 PM to 4 PM, and its other buildings are closed to the public. Tickets are sold online in advance, not at the gate: CAD 20 for an adult (18+), CAD 12 for a child or youth (3-17) and CAD 50 for a family (park website, checked 26 October 2026). Its 2027 summer season dates were not read for this page.

Is Elk Island National Park open in winter, and what does it cost?

Yes. Parks Canada says the park is open daily all year round, though some services are seasonal: the Astotin Theatre Interpretive Centre is closed from 8 September 2026 to 21 May 2027. Daily admission is CAD 10.00 for an adult, CAD 8.75 for a senior and CAD 19.50 for a family or group of up to seven people in one vehicle; youth 17 and under are free (Parks Canada, checked 26 October 2026).

How far is Elk Island National Park from Edmonton, and will I see bison?

The south entrance is approximately 48 km from Edmonton's city centre via Highway 16 East. Parks Canada describes herds of bison and elk and over 250 bird species in the park, but no sighting is promised, and it asks visitors to follow its Be bison wise guidance. Parks Canada suggests visiting on weekdays or before 11 AM on weekends; see the Elk Island guide.

How far is Jasper from Edmonton?

Parks Canada puts Jasper National Park 370 km west of Edmonton. It adds that SunDog Transportation and Tours offers a daily Jasper to Edmonton connector shuttle and that VIA Rail has regular train service to Jasper via Edmonton; no timetable was read for this page. Jasper and Banff have their own Voyzo pages: Jasper tours and Banff tours.

Do I need a car in Edmonton?

Not necessarily for the city centre. Edmonton Transit runs buses and LRT: an adult fare is CAD 3 for 90 minutes and CAD 10.50 for a day with an Arc card or a debit or credit card (City of Edmonton, checked 26 October 2026), and the Muttart Conservatory has its own Valley Line LRT stop. Elk Island is about 48 km from the city centre and Jasper is 370 km west, so those trips need a vehicle, a tour or a connector service. Both Voyzo walks are on foot, and hotel pickup around the walk can be arranged.

Do I need a passport or an eTA to visit Edmonton?

It depends on where you travel from and how you arrive. IRCC says visa-exempt foreign nationals need an eTA to fly to or transit through a Canadian airport but not when arriving by car, bus, train or boat, and that U.S. citizens are exempt from the eTA requirement. Check your own passport, visa and eTA requirements with IRCC before you book, because Voyzo cannot advise on them.

What festivals and events are on in Edmonton?

Dates found on 26 October 2026: the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival runs 12 to 22 August 2027; the Edmonton Folk Music Festival takes place each August (6 to 9 August in 2026; 2027 dates not shown); the Heritage Festival was 1 to 3 August 2026 at Hawrelak Park with no admission fees (2027 dates not shown). The venues' event pages give Farmfair International as 5 to 8 November 2026 and the Rocky Mountain Wine & Food Festival as 6 to 7 November 2026.

What do Voyzo's private walking tours in Edmonton include?

Voyzo lists two private guided walks: a 2 or 3-hour city highlights walk through downtown with the route shaped around your interests, and a 3-hour heritage walk along the river valley with a stop at a contemporary Indigenous art installation, ending in Old Strathcona. Neither has an online price table: ask for a quote and Voyzo replies by email with the price for your group. Hotel pickup and drop-off around the walk can be arranged.

The river valley runs through the city: Explore Edmonton, Edmonton's destination management and marketing organisation, describes it as North America's largest stretch of urban parkland and counts over 160 km of interconnected pathways. Fort Edmonton Park sits on 158 acres of parkland along the valley and began as a Canada Centennial reconstruction project in 1967, according to the park, and the City of Edmonton says 2026 is the Muttart Conservatory's 50th anniversary.

Each is run by an independent local operator and is quoted by email. The downtown route has no fixed stop list and follows your interests, the weather and the season; the tour page has the details.
