Edmonton's river valley is about 7,300 hectares, widely described as the largest contiguous urban parkland in Canada, and the walking pathways give you skyline views and shared stories of early settlers who came here for the fur trade.
Old Strathcona, where the tour ends, began in 1891 when the Calgary and Edmonton Railway arrived on the south side of the river. Strathcona was a separate city until it amalgamated with Edmonton on 1 February 1912, so its main street still reads as a distinct community with railway-era brick buildings.
Your guide can explain the context of the Indigenous art installation you stop at.
