About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, following the genuine miniature statues of artist Mihály Kolodko around Budapest. This is a private tour for your group only, following the real miniature statues of artist Mihály Kolodko, a genuine and distinctive Budapest art phenomenon.

Mihály Kolodko is a Ukrainian-born sculptor, trained at the Lviv Academy of Arts, who started making small bronze statues in his hometown of Uzhhorod before moving to Budapest in 2017. What began as a way around the bureaucracy of getting permission for large public monuments turned into a genuinely original art form: tiny, unauthorized bronze figures — most without any official pedestal at all — tucked onto cornices, railings, bridge supports, and gateposts across the city. Because they're placed without permits, they're often described as a form of guerrilla art.

Each statue is cast the old-fashioned way — sculpted first in clay, cast into a mold, then poured in bronze and hand-finished — and each one carries its own small story, usually built around Hungarian history, pop culture, or a wry bit of local political commentary. Spotting them is part of the fun: some sit at eye level, others are easy to miss entirely unless you know exactly where to look, which is precisely what makes a guided hunt for them different from an ordinary walking tour.
