This route is marketed by its operator as the tallest via ferrata in Utah, with more than 1,000 vertical feet from base to summit — three separate pitches, each over 250 feet, strung together along a fixed safety cable and iron rungs bolted into the cliff.
The descent is where this tour genuinely distinguishes itself from a standard via ferrata climb: four real rappels bring you back down, including one roughly 165-foot rappel that drops directly into a narrow slot canyon rather than down open rock face — a technical, hands-on introduction to rappelling technique most via ferrata routes don't include.
Via ferrata itself — Italian for “iron road” — traces back to fixed cable-and-rung routes the Italian army built into the Dolomites during World War I to move troops across sheer alpine terrain. The format was later restored and adapted for recreational climbing, which is the version used on this East Zion route today.
Originally run as a small-group experience by its operator, Voyzo books this route exclusively as a private tour for your group only.
