Buckskin Gulch is real geological superlative territory: at roughly 16 miles long, with a sheer-walled narrows section running for miles without a break, it's commonly cited as one of the longest and deepest slot canyons in the world. Its walls climb to around 500 feet in places by the point where Buckskin Gulch meets the Paria River.
The canyon sits within the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, a rugged, remote stretch of the Colorado Plateau on the Utah-Arizona border, directly adjacent to the better-known Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument — genuinely wild country, which is part of why this tour runs as a private, guided hike rather than something most visitors attempt solo.
