Tower Fall drops 132 feet on Tower Creek, and its name comes from the rock pinnacles at the top of the falls. It sits on the northern part of the park's loop road, so it fits naturally into a day that heads for the Lamar Valley rather than the geyser basins.
The Lamar Valley carries the nickname American Serengeti because large, visible herds and predators share open sagebrush country. It is also where the wolves captured in Canada were released in 1995, after roughly 70 years without wolves in the park, which is why wolf watching here is a serious pursuit.
A private guide and vehicle matter in this valley because wildlife viewing runs on patience: you can stay at a promising pullout as long as you like instead of following a group schedule. Departures from Island Park or West Yellowstone mean a long approach, so the day is built for pacing yourselves.
