Prague's Astronomical Clock, mounted on the Old Town Hall tower, has been running since 1410 — built by clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň working with astronomy professor Jan Šindel — which makes it the oldest astronomical clock in the world still in operation today. Every hour between 9am and 11pm, a mechanical procession of the Twelve Apostles appears in its windows, a show that's drawn crowds to the same square for over six centuries, even after the clock was badly damaged during the 1945 Prague Uprising and had to be restored.
Prague Castle, which your guide covers alongside the Old Town, holds the Guinness World Record as the largest ancient castle complex on earth — a sprawling mix of Gothic, Romanesque, and Baroque building phases dating back to its 9th-century founding.
