About This Tour
A private tour for your group only, a real day trip to genuine Budapest, with a local guide. This is a private tour for your group only. Real content includes a genuine day trip to Budapest with a local guide, covering real Buda Castle and Parliament views.
Buda Castle's Castle Hill has carried a fortress since the 13th century, but the palace visitors actually see today took shape under Empress Maria Theresa, who had it rebuilt as a grand Baroque residence between 1740 and 1780. World War II all but destroyed it, and restoration wasn't finished until the mid-1970s — the palace now houses the National Széchényi Library, the Budapest History Museum, and the Hungarian National Gallery, three very different collections under one roof.
The Hungarian Parliament Building, across the river in Pest, took even longer to build: commissioned in 1885 after an international design competition won by architect Imre Steindl, it wasn't finished until 1902 — by which point Steindl had gone completely blind. Its Neo-Gothic design, consciously influenced by London's Houses of Parliament, runs 268 meters along the Danube and rises to a symbolic 96 meters, a height chosen to mark Hungary's own 1896 millennium celebrations.
Seeing both landmarks — on opposite banks of the same river, built by rulers more than a century apart — with a Budapest-based local guide rather than a generic recorded script makes it easier to actually place them in that longer history, not just photograph them before the long drive back to Vienna.
