Venice's aperitivo tradition has its own name for a small glass of wine: "ombra," meaning "shadow," after the wine-sellers who once wheeled their carts around St Mark's Square to keep their stock cool in the shade thrown by the Campanile bell tower. Centuries later, the custom survives in bars across the city — and, on this tour, afloat on a vintage yacht instead.
San Giorgio Maggiore, often visible across the water during the charter, is a genuine 16th-century landmark in its own right: designed by the architect Andrea Palladio starting in 1566 and completed decades later by Vincenzo Scamozzi, its white marble facade has formed one of the lagoon's most recognizable views ever since, framed against the water opposite St Mark's.
Chartered exclusively for your own group, the yacht turns a well-worn Venetian ritual into something private and unhurried — the same drinks Venetians have been sharing for generations, just with the whole boat and the view to yourselves, and no need to squeeze onto a crowded dock-side bar stool to enjoy it the way locals have for decades.
