Venice is built across some 118 small islands, stitched together by more than 400 bridges over roughly 180 canals, with narrow calli threading between buildings that often sit just a few feet apart. That density is exactly what makes the city photograph so well — doorways, bridges, and water appear in combinations that simply don't exist anywhere else, and a huge amount of it sits just one or two streets back from the main tourist routes.
