Concón's dunes cover roughly 52 acres of protected sand cascading from high bluffs to the sea, a setting where desert-like slopes meet the Pacific. Sandboarders use them, and the sound of sea lions from the water below is part of the experience.
South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens) are common along the Chilean coast, and Chile is estimated to hold roughly a third of the world's population. Reñaca itself is a seaside town between Viña del Mar and Concón, so the coastal drive links all four stops.
The Flower Clock in Viña del Mar was inaugurated in 1962, and its original Swiss Favag mechanism was replaced after vandals damaged it in 2013. In Valparaíso, the funiculars date from the late 1800s onward.
