Titanic Belfast stands on the real site of the former Harland & Wolff shipyard, the actual ground where RMS Titanic was designed and launched before its 1912 maiden voyage. The building opened on 31 March 2012, close to the centenary of the sinking, and its exterior - four pointed hull-shaped sections clad in some 3,000 aluminum shards - is built to the same 38-metre height as the ship itself.
Your driver-guide also takes you to Belfast's Peace Wall, a genuine and still-standing reminder of the Troubles, the sectarian conflict that ran from the late 1960s until the Good Friday Agreement formally ended it in 1998. More than a quarter-century on, the walls dividing parts of the city - including the long stretch separating the Falls and Shankill Road areas - remain a real, visible part of Belfast's landscape, and this tour addresses that history plainly rather than glossing over it.
