About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, customizable across the real Royal National Park — Bald Hill, Wedding Cake Rock, and Wattamolla. This is a private tour for your group only, genuinely customizable across the Royal National Park. Real stops can include Bald Hill, Wedding Cake Rock, and Wattamolla.

Royal National Park was dedicated in 1879, which makes it the world's second-oldest national park, after Yellowstone in the United States (established in 1872). There's a genuine historical distinction worth knowing: Yellowstone was originally gazetted as a "public park," while the reserve south of Sydney was the first place in the world to be formally named a "national park" — a small but real piece of global conservation history sitting on Sydney's own doorstep.

The park's coastline is carved from Hawkesbury sandstone, the same 200-million-year-old rock that forms much of Sydney's dramatic coastal cliffs, and nowhere is that more visible than at Wedding Cake Rock — a striking tiered sandstone outcrop perched roughly 25 metres above the Tasman Sea. Its Instagram fame in the mid-2010s brought a sharp spike in visitor numbers, and a subsequent geotechnical survey found the formation dangerously unstable; NSW National Parks closed it to public access in 2015 and it remains fenced off today as a lookout-only landmark rather than somewhere visitors can stand on top of it.

Because the tour is genuinely customizable, your guide can weight the day toward whichever of the park's real landmarks matter most to your group — the sweeping ocean views from Bald Hill, a stop at Wattamolla's sheltered lagoon and waterfall, or simply more time on the coast track itself — rather than following one fixed script. A full nine hours gives real room to do that without rushing.
