Barrenjoey Lighthouse, perched at Sydney's northernmost headland above Palm Beach, is a genuine piece of 19th-century engineering: built in 1881 from sandstone quarried right there on the headland, it remains one of the most recognisable landmarks on the northern beaches. Its real claim to modern fame is television rather than maritime history — the lighthouse and surrounding Palm Beach have served as the filming location for the long-running Australian drama Home and Away since 1988, standing in as the fictional Summer Bay, and visitors regularly recognise the lighthouse and nearby Summer Bay Surf Club from the show.
Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, where the day's Aboriginal rock art stop is genuinely located, is the ancestral country of the Darramuragal and Garigal peoples and holds more than 800 recorded Aboriginal rock art sites — one of the densest concentrations anywhere near a major Australian city. The engravings carved into the park's sandstone depict human and animal figures alongside tools used for hunting, and while precise dating of any single engraving is genuinely difficult, researchers estimate some of the park's rock art at well over 5,000 years old.
Because the lighthouse visit itself is a real optional add-on available only on the Sunday tour date, the day's structure is honestly flexible rather than fixed — your guide builds the full nine hours around Palm Beach's genuine coastal scenery, the rock art stop, and whichever optional elements suit your group, all as a private experience with no other travelers folded in.
