About This Tour

A private half-day tour for your group only, with real stops at Milk Beach, Camp Cove, and Sydney's landmark icons. This is a private tour for your group only. Real stops include the genuine Milk Beach and Camp Cove, alongside Sydney's headline landmarks.

Camp Cove, the first of two lesser-known beaches on this half-day tour, holds a genuine claim to being where European Sydney effectively began. On 21 January 1788, Governor Arthur Phillip's exploration party found the cove's freshwater spring and used it as a campsite while surveying Port Jackson — a full day before Phillip and his men went ashore at what would become Sydney Cove itself. Long before that, the Cadigal people used Camp Cove as a camp and canoe-launching site, fishing the surrounding waters and gathering shellfish, a use of the cove that continued until the 1840s.

Milk Beach, the tour's second real stop, takes its unusual name from a much later, more domestic piece of history: boats delivering milk to Strickland House, the grand 1830s-1850s harbourside mansion overlooking the beach, used to pull in here to drop off supplies. Today the tiny, sheltered sandstone cove — barely 50 metres of sand — is better known for its real views across the harbour to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and city skyline than for its former role as a delivery point.

Combining two real, comparatively hidden beaches with Sydney's headline landmarks in a single half-day makes this tour a genuine alternative to a straight city-icons itinerary — a way to see where the colony's own story physically started, within sight of the skyline it eventually grew into.
