The Hermitage Foreshore Walk, one of the two real walking segments on this tour, traces the harbour shoreline between the Hermitage Foreshore Reserve just north of Rose Bay and Nielsen Park in Vaucluse. Much of the route sits below Strickland House, a grand 1830s-1850s harbourside mansion originally built for the Wentworth family and later used as a women's convalescent hospital from the First World War until 1989 — its grounds and gardens are now open parkland that the walk passes directly beneath.
At the other end of the day, the Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk covers very different terrain: a narrow clifftop track cut into Sydney's sandstone coastline, with ocean views the whole way. It's part of the longer Bondi to Coogee walk, one of the most-used coastal paths in Australia, tracing headlands and small beaches that have drawn Sydneysiders out of the water and onto the cliffs for generations.
Combining a genuine harbourside walk with a genuine ocean-side one in a single private day is a real contrast most visitors never get to experience back to back — the calm, tree-lined inlets around Rose Bay and Vaucluse look and feel nothing like the open, wind-scoured cliffs between Bondi and Tamarama, even though both are barely a 20-minute drive apart.
