The General Sherman Tree is about 275 feet tall with a trunk volume of roughly 52,500 cubic feet, and is usually estimated at 2,500 to 3,000 years old; it is the largest living tree on Earth by volume. That figure makes it the largest tree by volume, not the tallest, and it is still adding wood each year.
Moro Rock is a granite dome rising to 6,725 feet. Its staircase of 350 steps was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1931, replacing an earlier wooden stairway from 1917, and climbs to a summit view across the Great Western Divide. The Crescent Meadow loop is the quieter counterpoint: John Muir is said to have called the meadow the Gem of the Sierra.
Tunnel Log, a pass-by on this route, formed when a sequoia of roughly 275 feet fell across the road in 1937 and a tunnel about 17 feet wide and 8 feet high was cut through it the following summer. Together these stops make a short, varied day that shows both the scale of the trees and the granite landscape around them.
