Moro Rock rises to 6,725 feet and its 350-step staircase was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1931 to replace an earlier 1917 wooden stairway. Crescent Meadow, which John Muir is said to have called the Gem of the Sierra, is a short distance along.
This tour's shuttle-and-hike design takes you to Moro Rock and Crescent Meadow, then back on foot of about 4.5 miles through the Giant Forest, which lets you see the groves at walking pace.
The park's nonprofit partner for visitor services, the Sequoia Parks Conservancy, also offers the park's only public cave tour. Sequoia was established September 25, 1890, and is America's second-oldest national park.
