Sequoia is roughly 200 to 225 miles from Los Angeles depending on the route, and the drive to the Ash Mountain entrance usually takes about four to five hours each way, typically via I-5 and CA-99 and then CA-198 through Visalia. That makes this a long full day, and a private driver is a real advantage.
Once inside, the Generals Highway climbs roughly 32 miles from the foothills to the Giant Forest, where the General Sherman Tree is about 275 feet tall with a trunk volume of roughly 52,500 cubic feet, and is usually estimated at 2,500 to 3,000 years old; it is the largest living tree on Earth by volume.
Visiting a place that is one of the largest living things on Earth after a long drive across California's Central Valley is memorable, but the schedule is tight, so the group's priorities should be set with your driver at the start of the day.
