Segovia's cathedral, often nicknamed 'the Lady of the Cathedrals' for its height and the depth of its naves, is one of the last great Gothic cathedrals built anywhere in Europe. Construction on the current building began in 1525, replacing an earlier 12th-century cathedral badly damaged in 1521 during the Revolt of the Comuneros, a rebellion against the rule of Charles V. Most of the main structure went up between 1525 and 1577 under the Gil de Hontañón family of master builders, though the cathedral wasn't formally consecrated until 1768 — meaning its construction history alone spans well over two centuries.
Getting there is part of what makes this particular tour distinct: instead of a highway drive, you take Spain's AVE high-speed rail line, covering the roughly 90 kilometers between Madrid and Segovia in under 30 minutes. That leaves more of the day for your guide's full 3-hour walking tour on foot through the old town, taking in the Roman aqueduct and the cathedral before continuing to the Alcázar castle, with free time built in afterward to explore independently.
It's a genuinely different pace and feel from Voyzo's road-trip Segovia options — less time spent in a vehicle, more time walking the compact old town itself.
