The Cross of the Martyrs, a 25-foot reinforced-concrete cross dedicated during the Santa Fe Fiesta of 1920, honors the 21 Franciscan friars and roughly 380 Spanish colonists killed in the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. It is a twentieth-century monument to an earlier event, and the overlook is also one of the best places to see how compact Santa Fe's historic grid really is.
The Randall Davey Audubon Center sits in a foothill canyon on a former mill. The painter Randall Davey bought the property in 1920 and turned the mill into his home and studio, and his heirs gave it to the National Audubon Society in 1983, so it now operates as a wildlife sanctuary with trails.
The Railyard dates to 1880, when the railroad reached Santa Fe. After redevelopment plans were announced in 2002, the 50-acre site became an arts district that kept its industrial look, which is why galleries now occupy old warehouses.
