Choose your own route through Santa Fe's historic core with a personal historian guide.
A fully customizable private walking tour through Santa Fe's historic Old Town, where your personal historian guide tailors the route and stops to your interests — including a choice between two of the city's most distinctive chapels and the New Mexico State Capitol.
This tour is built around choice: your personal historian guide designs the route with you on the day, drawing from Santa Fe's real 400-year blend of Native American, Spanish colonial, and Mexican heritage. You can choose to focus on colonial-era archives or public plaza stories, and select which of two distinctive chapels to visit — one a Romanesque Revival landmark, the other known for an architectural marvel (a spiral staircase built with no visible center support). The New Mexico State Capitol is also part of the route.

The Loretto Chapel is the best-known of the choices. The Sisters of Loretto commissioned it for their girls' school in 1873, and it was consecrated in 1878 in Gothic Revival style modeled on Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. Its famous staircase has 33 steps, makes two full turns and has no central support. Legend says a mysterious carpenter built it after the nuns prayed to St. Joseph; that story is tradition, not documented history.
The New Mexico State Capitol is a different kind of landmark. Built between 1964 and 1966 and dedicated on December 8, 1966, it is the only circular state capitol in the country, known as the Roundhouse, and its plan echoes the Zia sun symbol that appears on the state flag.
Choosing between colonial archives and plaza stories changes the day's emphasis, but the underlying history is the same: a Native, Spanish and Mexican city that became American territory in 1846.
