Kids tend to engage with stories about things they can see. The Palace of the Governors, begun around 1610, was home to Spanish governors, was seized by Pueblo people in 1680 and held for twelve years, and later housed American territorial officials. That is a lot of plot for one adobe building.
The Loretto Chapel's spiral staircase, with 33 steps, two full turns and no central support, is a natural hit with children. Legend says a mysterious carpenter built it after nuns prayed for nine days, a story your guide can tell as legend while explaining what is documented.
Canyon Road and the Plaza's craft vendors let younger travelers see living art, and the walk can pause often for snacks and shade at Santa Fe's roughly 7,000-foot elevation.
