A private walking tour of San Salvador's historic squares and markets with a local, street-smart guide, covering the city's civil war history, the crypt of Archbishop Óscar Romero, the National Library, and the capital's real transformation from one of the world's most dangerous cities to one of its safest.
This walk focuses on San Salvador's own urban 20th-century history — Archbishop Óscar Romero's 1980 assassination and crypt, and the capital's decades-long journey from wartime and gang violence to major, well-documented safety gains since 2019 — told plainly and respectfully by a local guide. This is separate ground from Voyzo's existing Morazán civil war route, which covers rural wartime sites in the Morazán mountains, including the El Mozote massacre memorial.

Archbishop Óscar Romero was shot while saying Mass on March 24, 1980, a killing that came as the country moved toward a twelve-year civil war. He was canonized by Pope Francis on October 14, 2018, and his remains lie in the crypt of the Metropolitan Cathedral, a major pilgrimage site.
The tour covers this history plainly: the war years, the toll of gang violence that followed, and the capital's recent changes. Figures on violence and safety vary by source and government, so a local guide can speak to what residents have experienced rather than rely on a single statistic.
