About This Tour

Rainbow Valley is a dry ravine in the Domeyko range about 90 kilometres north of San Pedro, at more than 3,000 metres. Its colours, ochres, greens, reds and whites, come from different minerals in the rock layers.
Just south of the valley, the Yerbas Buenas petroglyphs record the passage of llama caravans that linked northwest Argentina and the Bolivian altiplano with the Pacific coast. Carvings include llamas and other camelids, birds and dogs.
Because the site is farther from town, it sees far fewer visitors than Moon Valley or the altiplano lagoons.
