About This Tour
A private day trip off Ambergris Caye to the Belize mainland, combining the Altun Ha Maya ruins, cave tubing through an underground river, and a canopy zipline, with your own guide throughout. This trip leaves the island by water taxi to reach the mainland attractions, then travels privately by vehicle between all three stops — a long, full day, but private throughout.
Altun Ha, meaning Rockstone Water, is about 31 miles from Belize City and was a trading link between the Caribbean coast and Maya centres inland. In 1968 archaeologist David Pendergast of the Royal Ontario Museum found a carved jade head of the Sun God Kinich Ahau in a tomb in the Temple of the Masonry Altars. It is the largest carved jade object known from a Maya site and appears on Belizean banknotes.
Cave tubing is done at Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch, where you float an underground river through limestone passages the ancient Maya used for shelter and ceremony. A rainforest zipline rounds off a day that combines culture and adventure.
It is a long day, with a water taxi to the mainland first, so bring sun protection and a change of clothes.
