St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park, a protected area of roughly 500 acres in Belize's Cayo District, packs two very different water experiences into one visit. St. Herman's Cave was a spiritual site for the Maya, with sources describing priests using it for ceremonies and collecting water that dripped from the stalactites, which they considered sacred. A stream at the rear of the cave lets visitors float back toward the entrance on an inner tube.
The Inland Blue Hole is a separate feature altogether: a nearly round, spring-fed sinkhole whose cool water is a welcome finish after the cave. Its name often confuses visitors, since the far larger Great Blue Hole sits offshore on the Caribbean reef, a different landmark entirely.
The park also holds Crystal Cave, another site sacred to the Maya, but this tour is built around the tubing and the swim, which makes for an easy, refreshing half-day with your own guide.
