About This Tour
A private morning horseback ride along the Kiskadee Trail through open pasture and jungle, followed by a private visit to the Xunantunich Maya ruins. A private riding tour, suited to all riding abilities, combined with a private visit to Xunantunich — your guide adjusts the pace of both halves to your group.
This tour pairs a slow-paced morning in the saddle with one of Cayo's best-known archaeological sites. The ride follows the Kiskadee Trail through pasture, jungle and riverside track, and a private booking lets the guide match the horses and the pace to your group's riding ability.
After the ride you reach Xunantunich by a free, hand-cranked cable ferry across the Mopan River, a small crossing that is part of the experience. The site was occupied over a long span, possibly as early as around 1000 BC when it was little more than a village, and it outlasted neighboring Cahal Pech, which was abandoned around 850 AD.
Climbing El Castillo gives a view across the jungle toward Guatemala. Wear closed shoes you can walk in, since the day moves between saddle and pyramid steps.
