About This Tour
A private guide and hotel pickup for Belize's signature adventure — a relaxed float on an inner tube through an underground river at the Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch reserve. A private version of Belize's most popular activity — after a short jungle hike to the cave entrance, you float through the cave system on your own private schedule, not grouped in with other travelers' tube trains.
Cave tubing in Belize is done in the Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve, a name that is often shortened to Caves Branch or called Jaguar Paw. These are different names for the same area, not rival venues. The reserve lies roughly 30 minutes southeast of Belmopan and is an extensive network of limestone caves under dense rainforest.
The Caves Branch River flows through some of those caves, and the cave system is reported to extend over seven miles. Archaeological evidence suggests the Maya used it as a ceremonial center for hundreds of years. Tubing lets you drift through it slowly, seeing only what your headlamp lights up of the formations and the darkness beyond.
You reach the river by a short guided jungle walk, so footwear that can get wet is useful. Going privately means your guide is not juggling a long train of tubers and can set the rhythm of the float.
