The Igreja do Carmo (Carmo Church) belongs to a Carmelite complex. The original church, founded in 1636, burned down, and the neoclassical structure seen today dates from 1828. That reconstruction history is why its look differs from the Baroque churches elsewhere in the center.
The Forte de Monte Serrat sits on a small peninsula on the bay side and is one of the most imposing military monuments in Bahia, part of the chain of forts that protected the colonial capital's harbor.
Barra Fort, the third stop, goes back to a ten-sided tower begun in 1536 and holds the 1698 lighthouse. Together the three stops give first-time visitors a quick sense of how the city was defended and worshipped in, so you can choose where to return on your own.
