About This Tour
A full-day private trip from Salvador to Cachoeira, a colonial town protected as a Brazilian National Monument along the Recôncavo Baiano, with visits to the historic Carmo and Rosário churches, the colonial-era jail, a local farm lunch, and a tour of the Dannemann cigar factory. This is a private day trip for your group only. Cachoeira sits about 110 km from Salvador and was once a thriving commercial river port during the colonial period — this tour pairs its architecture and history with real rural Brazilian life.
Cachoeira lies about 100 km from Salvador in the Recôncavo, the fertile ring of land around the bay. Sugar and tobacco wealth made it powerful in the 18th and 19th centuries, and its colonial architectural ensemble was listed by IPHAN in 1971 and recognized as a National Monument.
During the 1822–1823 Bahian war of independence, Cachoeira served as a seat of the independence government, with battalions organized there to fight Portuguese forces. Visiting the Carmo and Rosário churches and the old town hall and jail puts that political history in real buildings.
Across the Paraguaçu River, the town of São Félix housed factories making cigars from the second half of the 19th century. The Dannemannn cultural center, founded in 1989, preserves that tobacco heritage, and the farm lunch gives a taste of the Recôncavo's rural cooking.
