About This Tour
A private tour for your group only, tasting genuine craft beer near the Vatican, with real local food bites. This is a private tour for your group only. Real craft beer is tasted alongside genuine local food bites, near the Vatican.
Craft beer is a genuinely recent arrival in Italy — as late as the mid-1990s there was almost no commercial craft brewing in the country at all. The movement only took hold around 1996, led by pioneers like Teo Musso of Birra Baladin and Agostino Arioli of Birrificio Italiano in the north, who began arguing that beer deserved the same care and food-pairing respect long reserved for Italian wine.
Rome's own scene traces back to 2001 and the opening of Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà, a bar near the river whose owner, Manuele Colonna, is widely credited as the father of the city's craft beer explosion. Today Rome has one of the highest concentrations of craft beer bars anywhere in Europe, clustered especially around Trastevere, Pigneto, Ostiense, and Prati — the district just across the river from the Vatican where this tour takes place.
Pairing that relatively young beer culture with Rome's much older local food bites makes for a deliberately mismatched, very Roman combination: centuries-old recipes served alongside a drink the city has only really embraced for about thirty years.
