Walking a rainforest canopy at height gives you access to a slice of the ecosystem that ground-level jungle trails simply can't reach. The eight suspension bridges on this tour run between roughly 150 and 200 feet in length and lift you anywhere from about 20 to 85 feet above the forest floor, carried on reinforced steel cables with a flat, four-foot-wide walking surface and safety mesh underneath -- the kind of double-line system that gets inspected annually by a certified member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). At that height you're moving through the part of the rainforest where a lot of the actual life happens: birds, iguanas, and other canopy-dwelling species that rarely come down to where a standard nature trail would put you.
The walk itself, which typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes along paved paths, wooden stairways, and the bridges themselves, winds past island palms, tropical flowers, and the thick, looping vines locals and guides alike have nicknamed "Tarzan" vines for how they drape between the trees. It's a genuinely different way to experience a Caribbean rainforest than the wildlife-park format most Roatán excursions use -- there's no enclosure or feeding stop here, just a guided walk through a real forest canopy at the height where its wildlife actually lives.
Finishing the day with a beach break works well after the walk, since the eco-tour itself is entirely on foot and in the shade of the canopy -- a cooler, calmer contrast to the open sun and water of Roatán's coastline.
