Peter Jackson's crews spent roughly 18 months filming in and around Queenstown across the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, returning in every season so the landscape would read as convincingly otherworldly on screen. Within about an hour's drive of town — mountains, braided rivers, beech forest and wide glacial valleys — enough of Middle-earth was captured here that this corner of Otago is still one of the most frequently referenced "real Middle-earth" regions in New Zealand, alongside locations further north and in the Wellington region.
Paradise, at the end of the Glenorchy road, is one of the better-documented examples: it stood in for Parth Galen and the entrance to Lothlorien — the spot where the Fellowship first arrives at the golden wood — in The Fellowship of the Ring, and was used again years later for the exterior of Beorn's house in The Hobbit trilogy.
Isengard is a more complicated case worth being upfront about. The fortress's large built set and most of its principal scenes were actually filmed well to the north, around Twizel and in the Wellington region — but a valley in the Dart/Paradise country near Glenorchy, historically reached by horse trek, was used for at least one exterior Isengard scene, showing Saruman's forces marching out through the gate. So this tour's Isengard stop is a genuine filming location tied to that specific scene, not the site of the full constructed fortress seen in wide shots throughout the films — a distinction worth knowing before you go.
As the tour's own description makes clear, this is an independent, locally guided tour of real locations — it isn't produced, licensed, or endorsed by the film studios, and your guide is sharing documented filming history rather than running an official studio experience.
