Los Arcos has carried federal protection for decades: the waters around its islets were first designated a refuge zone for marine flora and fauna in 1975, and the islets themselves were formally classified a National Marine Park in 1984, placing them under Mexico's federal system of protected natural areas (today overseen by CONANP, the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas). The park's five rocky islets sit about 12 km (7.5 miles) south of Puerto Vallarta, their arches and tunnels carved by decades of wave erosion — which is also what makes the formations a genuine draw for snorkeling, with clear water around the rock faces and a protected-habitat population of reef fish and seabirds.
From Los Arcos, the charter continues to Playa Paredón, a quiet stretch of sand reachable solely by sea — consistent with the broader character of Banderas Bay's southern coastline, where several real beaches (Las Ánimas, Quimixto, Majahuitas, Yelapa among them) have no road access at all and stay secluded specifically because a boat is the only way in.
Humpback whales migrate through Banderas Bay roughly from December through March, and dolphins and sea turtles are present in the bay year-round, so sightings on the way between stops are a real possibility — though, as with any wildlife at sea, never a guarantee on a given afternoon.
