This private day trip leaves Banderas Bay's resort strip behind and runs north along the Riviera Nayarit coast into three real, lived-in towns rather than built-for-tourism stops. Lo de Marcos is a genuine small-town community known locally for authentic Mexican cocoa and a hillside of brightly painted houses with ocean views; Los Ayala sits at the southern end of Jaltemba Bay, about 3 km from Guayabitos, with a quiet beach over a kilometer long. Frideras Beach, the cove you reach from Los Ayala, is accessible only via a short jungle walk — no road leads there, which is a real part of why it stays uncrowded rather than just marketing language.
The day's last stop, Guayabitos (formally Rincón de Guayabitos), has a real story behind its name: it translates roughly to "corner of little guava trees," a reference to the guava orchards that once covered the surrounding bay area. The town itself is relatively young as Mexican coastal towns go — it was developed starting in the early 1970s as part of a government tourism trust project for Banderas Bay, aimed at middle-class Mexican vacationers rather than international resort development, and it still draws mostly Mexican families today. Its own beach is one of the largest natural calm-water pools on this stretch of coast, roughly 2 km long and about 30 meters wide, which is why it ends up being the easiest spot on the trip for an unhurried swim.
Guayabitos' offshore islands, Isla Coral and El Cangrejo, are a genuine local diving and snorkeling spot — the real reason this tour's optional Coral Island add-on exists, rather than being an arbitrary upsell. The same stretch of coast that's quiet enough for these calm Nayarit beach towns also sees the same real humpback whale season that runs December through mid-March in Banderas Bay just to the south, so travelers visiting in those months sometimes spot whales offshore even on a trip built around the beach towns themselves.
What ties Lo de Marcos, Los Ayala, and Guayabitos together is that none of them were purpose-built for international tourists — they're real Nayarit communities with their own fishing, farming, and small-business economy, and visiting them on a private, flexible schedule (rather than a fixed-stop group bus) is what actually lets a traveler experience that, instead of just passing through.
