Puerto Vallarta sits at the point where the Sierra Madre Occidental drops almost straight into the Pacific — the same mountain system that runs north through Arizona's "sky islands" all the way to just north of Guadalajara. The ATV route climbs out of that coastal lowland and into the range's lower slopes, where hot, dry tropical forest gives way within a short drive to denser, shadier woodland — part of the broader pine-oak forest zone that blankets the Sierra Madre Occidental at higher elevation. Rivers carve directly through this terrain, which is why river crossings and washed-out jungle tracks are a defining part of the ride rather than an occasional obstacle.
The waterfall stop sits along one of these mountain rivers, where seasonal flow has worn channels and pools into the exposed rock — a common geological signature across this stretch of the Sierra Madre, where fast-moving water meets softer volcanic and sedimentary stone. It's a natural swimming and photo stop built into the middle of the ride rather than a staged attraction, and conditions — water volume, clarity — shift with the season the way any real mountain river does.
The tasting that closes the ride introduces real tequila rather than a generic agave-spirit sampler: by Mexican law, tequila can only be distilled from blue agave (Agave tequilana) and only within a handful of designated states, Jalisco foremost among them. This stop is a tasting, not a full distillery tour or a trip to the historic town of Tequila itself — for that deeper version of the experience, Voyzo also runs a dedicated full-day Tequila Magic Town tour. Here, the tasting is simply the ride's finishing note after a half-day in the mountains.
