The Prince of Wales Hotel was built in 1926-27 on a bluff above Waterton Lake by the Great Northern Railway, using locally milled lumber, and opened on July 25, 1927. Waterton Lakes and Glacier National Park in Montana together form the world's first international peace park.
Red Rock Canyon is named for thick beds of red argillite, and Cameron Falls is one of the park's best-known waterfalls. The park is also a UN-designated biosphere reserve. Waterton is a long day trip from Calgary, so an early departure is typical.
