Prague earned the nickname "Golden Prague" for real, specific reasons tied to one figure above all: Charles IV. Crowned King of Bohemia in 1346 and Holy Roman Emperor in 1355, Charles made Prague the first city in history to serve simultaneously as capital of the Bohemian Crown and of the Holy Roman Empire — and under his rule the city grew into the third-largest in Europe. He founded Charles University in 1348, the first university in Central Europe, laid out the New Town the same year, and set in motion the building of Charles Bridge and Karlštejn Castle. A tour genuinely spanning 1,000 years of history has to reckon with just how much of what you're walking through — the bridge, the university quarter, the castle silhouette on the hill — traces directly back to this one 14th-century reign.
But Prague's history didn't start or stop with Charles IV. The city's roots as a settled power center reach back to the 9th century at Prague Castle, and what followed his Golden Age includes Hussite religious wars, Habsburg rule, the 20th century's two world wars and decades of communist government, and the 1989 Velvet Revolution that ended it peacefully. A guide covering this much ground in a single day has to connect eras rather than just list monuments — explaining, for instance, why a Gothic cathedral sits beside a Renaissance palace sits beside a Cubist building, each one a real marker of a different political and cultural turn.
A solo-operator format — one guide, capped at six people, with no combining of separate bookings — suits this kind of material well: it leaves room for real back-and-forth and follow-up questions rather than a fixed script delivered to a larger group.
