The Vltava is the longest river entirely within the Czech Republic, running roughly 430 kilometers from its source in the Bohemian Forest near the Austrian and German borders, through Český Krumlov and České Budějovice, and finally through Prague before joining the Elbe — draining close to a third of the country's entire territory along the way. For centuries it was also the country's main transport route: timber rafting on the Vltava dates back to at least the 14th century, with Český Krumlov serving as the river's first official raft-binding point from 1562 onward, carrying building timber and salt downriver toward Prague. The last commercial raft actually reached Prague in 1947, and the tradition survived only as a recognized piece of Czech folk heritage after a cascade of dams ended commercial rafting for good by 1960.
A two-hour private charter covers a real stretch of that same historic waterway, passing landmarks that are genuinely only seen properly from the water: the National Theatre and the modern Dancing House along the riverbank, the fortress ruins and twin Neo-Gothic spires of Vyšehrad's Peter and Paul Cathedral further south, and Charles Bridge itself, with Prague Castle's silhouette rising above the whole scene almost continuously along the route.
Having just your own captain and a private boat for the full two hours — rather than joining a scheduled sightseeing cruise — means the commentary can actually follow what your group is curious about, from the river's own industrial history to the architecture passing by on either bank.
