Prague Castle, the start and anchor of this tour, isn't just old — by Guinness World Records' own measure it's the largest ancient castle complex on Earth, sprawling across roughly 70,000 square meters, about 570 meters end to end and 130 meters wide on average. Its history stretches back to the 9th century, making it older than most of the countries whose leaders have since visited it.
Inside that vast complex, St Vitus Cathedral is its own centuries-long story. Charles IV laid its foundations in 1344, hoping to build a coronation church and family crypt worthy of a Holy Roman Emperor. The project outlived him by nearly six hundred years — master builder Matthias of Arras began the work, Peter Parler took over after Arras's death in 1352, and the cathedral wasn't finally finished and consecrated until 1929, 585 years after the first stone was laid.
From the castle gates, the real Royal Way carries you down through the Jewish Quarter's narrow streets and across the river into Old Town, tracing the same ceremonial route Bohemian kings once walked to their own coronations at St Vitus. The tour closes at Charles Bridge, founded by Charles IV in 1357 after a flood swept away Prague's earlier bridge — today lined with 30 Baroque statues added more than two centuries later, though the Gothic stonework underfoot is still the original 14th-century span.
