This is a private, exclusive charter of a traditional tall ship — the same style of vessel used for Portland's popular public windjammer cruises, but reserved entirely for your group. Portland Schooner Co.'s wooden windjammers sail from Maine State Pier; the company's vessels were built in Maine and several are on the National Register of Historic Places. Casco Bay itself was nicknamed the Calendar Islands after a 1700 report of an island for each day of the year, though the Coast Pilot counts 136.
Fort Gorges, begun in 1858 and completed in 1865 on Hog Island Ledge, is a landmark visible from the water, and Portland Head Light, first lit in 1791, is among the lights nearby.
Harbor seals and seabirds are regular sightings in the bay.
