Cape Neddick Light, locally called Nubble Light, has been tended on its small island since 1879, with more than 30 keepers serving through 1987. In 1977 its image was chosen for NASA's Voyager Golden Record, alongside images such as the Taj Mahal and Great Wall of China, and it is one of only eight Maine lighthouses still using its original Fresnel lens.
York's Old Gaol, dating to about 1719, is among the oldest prison buildings in the United States and a National Historic Landmark since 1968; the stone cell block has walls 2.5 feet thick. The John Hancock Warehouse was built around 1740, and victims of the 1692 Candlemas Raid are believed buried in the Old Burying Ground.
Perkins Cove in Ogunquit was settled by English fishermen in the 1620s and once called Fish Cove; its anchorage basin is man-made, dug after about 1880. Marginal Way, a 1.25-mile cliff walk, dates to 1925 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.
