Bath's Maine Maritime Museum stands on a surviving shipyard site on the Kennebec. Its steel sculpture, about 450 feet long overall, outlines the 1909 schooner Wyoming, described as the largest wooden sailing vessel built in the United States.
Wiscasset's slogan 'prettiest village in Maine' traces to travel writer Wallace Nutting's 1924 book Maine Beautiful and photographer Samuel Chamberlain's later book. Red's Eats began in 1938 in Boothbay and moved to Wiscasset in 1954.
Rockland's breakwater is 7/8 mile of granite, begun in 1881 and finished November 24, 1899, with the lighthouse itself built in 1902. Mount Battie rises about 800 feet in Camden Hills State Park; a stone summit tower was dedicated in 1921 as a World War I memorial, and the view is said to have inspired Edna St. Vincent Millay's poem Renascence.
