The Petit Trianon, the second stop on this tour after the main palace, was a genuine gift from King Louis XVI to Marie-Antoinette when she was just nineteen — a small château of her own, away from the rigid formality of court life at Versailles proper. It became her real private retreat, a place where she could relax among close friends rather than under constant public observation, which was a near-constant condition of royal life in the main palace.
Nearby sits the Hameau de la Reine, the "Queen's Hamlet," built for her in 1783 by the architect Richard Mique — a rustic village complete with a working farmhouse, dairy, mill, and even a lighthouse-style tower, arranged around a small pond. It was designed to look like an ordinary countryside hamlet, though it existed purely for the queen's leisure rather than actual farming, and it remains one of the more unusual corners of the entire Versailles estate.
A real lunch is included as part of the day, giving your private tour room to properly cover both the grandeur of the main palace and the much more personal, informal world Marie-Antoinette built for herself just a short walk away. Hotel pickup from anywhere in Paris is included, with the day genuinely built around seeing both sides of Versailles.
