Much of what makes central Paris so navigable on wheels today traces back to Baron Haussmann's renovation of the city between 1853 and 1870. Commissioned by Napoleon III to modernize an overcrowded, largely medieval Paris, Haussmann demolished entire neighborhoods and replaced them with the wide, uniform boulevards, parks, and squares that still define the city's visual identity. The project was hugely controversial at the time — Haussmann was eventually dismissed in 1870 — but it's the reason a half-day on wheels can genuinely cover ground that would take far longer on foot.
A Segway is particularly well suited to those same long, straight avenues — you can move at a real, efficient clip between landmarks rather than stopping to catch your breath every few blocks, which over a full half-day adds up to a meaningfully larger loop of the city than a standard walking tour manages in the same window. It also makes slightly awkward crossings and longer connecting stretches between sights feel effortless instead of like dead time.
Your guide builds the actual route around your own group's interests and the day's conditions, mixing major landmarks with the kind of connecting streets most walking tours simply skip because they're too far apart on foot. It's a private tour for your group alone, with the pace and stops genuinely yours to set.
