About This Tour
A private tour for your group only — the real Champagne region, including Épernay and Reims, with genuine tastings. This is a private tour for your group only. Real stops include Épernay and Reims, in the genuine heart of the Champagne region, with real tastings.
Épernay's Avenue de Champagne is a genuinely unusual street — a roughly one-kilometer stretch lined with the headquarters of major Champagne houses, sitting above an estimated 110 kilometers of chalk cellars carved beneath the town where millions of bottles age at a time. It's one of the real, concentrated centers of Champagne production, not just a scenic backdrop for a tasting.
Reims, the other stop, carries a different kind of weight: its cathedral, Notre-Dame de Reims, was the traditional coronation site for French kings for centuries, starting with Clovis in 496 AD by legend and continuing through most of the monarchy. The cathedral's Gothic architecture and surviving medieval stained glass are reason enough to visit even without the Champagne connection.
Real tastings are built into the day at both towns, giving your group a direct sense of how the same grapes and chalk soil produce such different styles across different houses — a distinction that's genuinely hard to appreciate from a wine list back in Paris, and one that a day spent in the actual cellars makes obvious almost immediately.
