The banks of the Seine through central Paris — the stretch from the Pont de Sully to the Pont d'Iéna, roughly eight kilometers — were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, recognized for bringing together centuries of the city's architecture, bridges, gardens, and monuments along a single continuous riverfront.
